Our formative “listening” phase included interviews with women in 4 states, led by: Kranti Vora and Shahin Saiyed in Gujarat, in collaboration with SAATHI and SEWA; JK Lakshmi and Surya Surendran in Andhra Pradesh; Neymat Chadha and Sharmada Sivaram in Bihar, with JEEViKA SHGs and SEWA; and Neymat Chadha in Punjab, with support from the State Rural Livelihoods Mission and SEWA.
During the formative phase, SAHELI team members supported Prayas, led by Narendra Gupta and Chhaya Pachauli, to conduct consultations in 6 states with providers, policymakers, researchers and advocates in collaboration with UNFPA and several state-level organisations

- A population-based quantitative survey in three states, which will include demographic characteristics, reproductive histories, household decision-making power; employment; self-reported health status, and quality of life, and biomarkers. There is a focussed module for women who have undergone hysterectomy to assess effects on quality of life, mental health, and access to treatment for side effects.
- In-depth qualitative research on treatment journeys and health system responses, amongst women, providers and community members.

During the survey, we offered telephone sessions with expert gynaecologists in the SAHELI team, including PIs and TAG members, for free information on gynaecological concerns.
